More on the Gilbert Thomas Collar shooting:
Me: So you think the cop should’ve gotten in a fistfight with the subject.
Alex: Yes.
Me: You think he should’ve dropped his gun and gotten in a fight with a subject who was likely on drugs, which meant likely pain resistant, who was well-muscled, acting erratically and aggressively, and ignoring both the cop’s verbal commands and the fact that he had his weapon drawn.
Alex: I never said he should drop his gun.
Me: Oh, pardon me. So you think he should’ve had a fistfight with a drugged up muscly guy while holding a loaded firearm.
Alex: Uh…
Me: Didn’t you claim, several times, that just having the gun out made the shooting much more likely? In fact, I think you called it “inevitable” once.
Alex: [DEAFENING SILENCE]
Me: Yet you’re now suggesting that he could successfully subdue the subject without putting away his weapon.
Alex: [EVEN MORE DEAFENING SILENCE]
