Amon is really Moriarty. Clearly after the end of the second Sherlock Holmes movie, he wound up in the wrong universe, and took advantage of an opportunity. His scientific investigation allowed him to figure out how to block bending permanently. The Equalists’ fighting style is based on some Chinese acrobats he saw once. The guy on the posters in the mask is just a cat’s paw.
